Match Report ISFA Cup vs Bedale’s Prep School

Monday 31st October 2022

First Half

Early in the game Freemen’s were holding the majority of possession in the opposition’s half. However, our attacking play did not lead to a goal. Bedale’s found a breakthrough in our defence and the ball got laid down to their number 9 who volleyed it perfectly into the top right corner, just beating our goalkeeper. The rest of the first half was a constant attack from Freemens. Despite this, the half time score was 1-0 to Bedale's. We needed to regroup and recover during the halftime break in order to overcome the deficit.

Second Half

The second half saw improved finishing within the first 3 minutes curtesy of Charlie who finished in the bottom corner after a great run down the left wing (1-1). But not long after their speedy number 9 beat 2 of our defenders and took a low shot which unluckily took a deflection beating our goalkeeper (2-1). Freemen’s then took back control as Lucas played an audacious pass to Seb who then dribbled past 2 players before rocketing a shot into the top corner (2-2). From more good play down the left wing, Charlie put a dangerous cross into the box, rebounding off a Bedale’s player into the goal. That made the score 3-2 to Freemen’s! After some effective team pressing Jago collected the ball just outside the box and took a bodacious shot that smashed against the crossbar. Luckily, he did get his deserved goal after following up a parried shot later in the game (4-2). We sealed the victory after Rafferty pressed their defenders, recovered the ball and placed it in the back of the net (5-2).

It was a great second-half performance from the Team. Afterwards, the opposition chose Charlie as the Player of The Match for his dangerous play on the Left Wing throughout the game. The next round of the cup is against Dulwich Prep to be played later this month.
